In this unhistorical account, Capt. William Kidd is already a clever, ruthless pirate when, in 1699, he tricks the king into commissioning him as escort for a treasure ship from India. He enlists a crew of pardoned cutthroats - and Orange Povey, whom Kidd once abandoned on a reef and hoped never to see again. Of course, Kidd\'s intentions are treacherous. But there\'s more to gunner Adam Mercy than meets the eye.

Η ιστορία του χοντρούλη και πανούργου πειρατή Captain Kidd ο οποίος καταφέρνει και πείθει τον Άγγλο βασιλιά ότι είναι πολέμιος των πειρατών. Έτσι ο βασιλιάς του εμπιστεύεται τη συνοδεία ενός πλοίου με αμύθητο θησαυρό για να το φέρει στην Αγγλία. Φυσικά ο σκοπός του Captain Kidd είναι να κλέψει τον θησαυρό και να μην τον μοιραστεί με κανέναν από τους συνεργούς του σκοτώνοντας τους όλους. Όμως δεν γνωρίζει ότι στο πλήρωμα του είναι ένας υποτιθέμενος πειρατής (στην πραγματικότητα ο Λόρδος Μπλέιν) ο οποίος θέλει να εκδικηθεί τον Captain Kidd για το θάνατο του πατέρα του, κυβερνήτη του πλοίου \"Δώδεκα Απόστολοι\" που είχε πέσει παλιότερα στα χέρια του πειρατή Captain Kidd.
