Detective Murdoch investigates the murder of Alexander Taylor who is found in his living room on his birthday obviously having been attacked with a ax. The case seems open and shut however when they find the man\'s daughter Charlotte sitting on her bed with the murder weapon in her hands. Charlotte admits that she must have killed her father but has no memory of it. She also says she often has no memory when she is possessed by the devil. During an interrogation however another character, Maddie, emerges leading Murdoch to conclude that there are two personalities in the same body. He consults Dr. Roberts, who has helped him in the past, who recommends they try hypnosis. What they find is that she has more than two personalities. But which one committed, or perhaps witnessed, the crime?

Ο ντετέκτιβ Μέρντοχ ερευνά τη δολοφονία του Αλεξάντερ Τέιλορ, ο οποίος βρέθηκε στο σαλόνι του την ημέρα των γενεθλίων του προφανώς έχοντας δεχτεί επίθεση με τσεκούρι. Η υπόθεση όμως φαίνεται να είναι ξεκάθαρη όταν βρίσκουν την κόρη του άντρα, τη Σάρλοτ, να κάθεται στο κρεβάτι της με το φονικό όπλο στα χέρια της. Η Σάρλοτ παραδέχεται ότι πρέπει να έχει σκοτώσει τον πατέρα της, αλλά δεν έχει καμία ανάμνηση γι\' αυτό. Λέει επίσης ότι συχνά δεν έχει καμία μνήμη όταν είναι δαιμονισμένη από τον διάβολο. Κατά τη διάρκεια μιας ανάκρισης όμως εμφανίζεται ένας άλλος χαρακτήρας, η Μάντι, που οδηγεί τον Μέρντοχ στο συμπέρασμα ότι υπάρχουν δύο προσωπικότητες στο ίδιο σώμα. Συμβουλεύεται τον δρα Ρόμπερτς, ο οποίος τον έχει βοηθήσει στο παρελθόν, ο οποίος τους συστήνει να δοκιμάσουν την ύπνωση. Αυτό που διαπιστώνουν είναι ότι έχει περισσότερες από δύο προσωπικότητες. Ποια από τις δύο όμως διέπραξε, ή ίσως ήταν μάρτυρας, το έγκλημα;
