With music videos as Justify My Love and Open Your Heart, photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino had already proven to be a great director. For Human Nature he filmed Madonna and her dancers in a fantastic choreography. Though they're all dressed in a leather S&M-outfit, the video is rather humorous than erotic. It also shows Madonna using her whip on her own chihuahua Chiquita, who's equally dressed up in black leather. I personally adore this song, and I love the way she's been turning the tables on her critics in a forthright, confident manner without pulling the victim card or becoming abusive. Anyone who speaks their mind and express their opinions loud enough, often enough and effectively enough will experience opposing reactions from the mainstream maintainers of the Status Quo. This seems to double if you are a Woman, Gay, Atheist, Fat, Poor, An Ethnic Minority, or not Conventionally Attractive. It takes strength to buck the system, and this song is the perfect shot in the arm for those who seek to live authentically and persevere unconquered. Thank you, Madonna, for this gem of a song, and for sticking to your guns and showing us how it's done.
